Mrs Jo Messer
It was a slower week in sport this week as most training were cancelled because there are no roster matches for soccer and hockey this weekend and GYC’s oval still closed. There is however one more water polo game for the term on Friday night.
The Sharks are up against Mt Stuart at 7.30pm on Friday July 1. We are hoping to finish off the term on a high note with a close game, if not a win as the Mt Stuart team sit one place above us on the ladder. Last week were up against the top of the table team, Friends. The end result was 16 – 3 but we went down fighting and in Tommy Direen’s words, ‘at least we scored more goals than last week’. That’s the spirit!!
Player of the Week was Campbell Hills
Encouragement Award went to Liam Gerathy for a fabulous second half in goals and Daniel Wylie.
We have 40 boys who have signed up for Basketball in Grade 3&4 and 40 boys for the Grade 5&6 roster as well. This year we will be fielding 4 teams in both rosters. Thank you to the following people who have volunteered to coach:
Grade 5&6 Teams: Nicole Read, Joe Turmine, Mikayla Lack and Peter Banks
Grade 3&4 Teams: Charlotte Collins, Rae Kovacic, Robin Rhodes, Brent Scanlon
We have also had a lot of parent volunteers to be managers which is fabulous. Managers and coaches will be allocated to teams once the teams are decided in Week 1 of Term 3.
We have had some referees volunteer as well, which is great as we need referees for all home games.
Rosters will be distributed once received and teams decided.
Next term we commence Football on Friday afternoons. Teams were listed in last week’s newsletter and are up on the Sport Board at the Junior School. Jumper numbers have been allocated to all boys. The boys will receive these jumpers on the day of their first match: July 22.
