As the year has now drawn to a close for 2020, we would like to wish all the families in our wonderful community a very safe, happy, and holy Christmas.
Many parents and students will need to re-charge their batteries after a year which many have found challenging. We are proud of the efforts of our students and our staff, from teachers to learning support officers, office staff and grounds and maintenance staff. Thank you one and all for your combined efforts to make it to the end of the year, we truly appreciate everything you have done.
Bethlehem House Christmas Gifts
This is the 13th year we have asked for donations to provide gifts for the many homeless men of Hobart. We would like to say a sincere thank you to our families for supporting this cause once again. We continue with the message that we are ‘boys supporting men’ and it is very important to us to assist people in our local community and raise awareness of the good works of the St Vincent de Paul Society.
The Bethlehem House Christmas Mass was celebrated yesterday at 4pm at St Mary’s Cathedral. We were very proud to have our Mini Vinnies President, Charlie Cubit, Vice President Llewellyn Gray and Riley Drew attend the Mass to represent the Junior School and deliver the gift boxes for the men of Bethlehem House. They showed great commitment and lived out ‘by deeds, not words alone’, in attending the Mass in their own time. The CEO of Bethlehem House, Mrs Stephanie Kirkman Meikle spoke during the Mass of the wonderful support they are able to give to those men in need and was particularly grateful for the wider support received from many groups and individuals, including St Virgil’s College.

Announcement of Junior School Captain and Vice-Captain for 2021
This year we had to break from tradition, announcing the School Captain and Vice-Captain for 2021 at our End of Year Assembly. We are pleased to confirm that Clement McKenna will be Captain and Joe Shanny, his Vice Captain. Congratulations boys, we look forward to working with you next year. These boys will join us at the Grade 6 Thanksgiving and Awards Ceremony for the leadership handover.
End of Year Assembly
Yesterday the Junior Campus gathered in the Joyce Performance Centre at the Austins Ferry Campus for our annual End of Year Assembly. This was a wonderful afternoon celebrating the achievements of our students throughout the year. We were able to enjoy a musical interlude from the choir and the chance to reminisce on the journey the Grade 6s have been on for the last four years.
The final item was the much-anticipated announcement of House Point Winners for the Year. We are pleased to say that the winning house for 2020 was Doyle House. Congratulations to Doyle House Captain and Vice-Captain Sam Nolan and Aidan Godfrey, together with Aussie Sport Leaders Charles Doyle and Harry Costelloe on their leadership of Doyle House throughout the year.
We also announced the winner of the Semester Two winning House, who are treated to the bi-annual pizza party. The winner of this was Hessian House. Congratulations to these boys, ably led by Max Sylvester and Daniel Mapley as Captain and Vice-Captain with Cohen Macey and Alex Lamprey as Aussie Sports Leaders.
Grade 6 End of Year Activities
On Thursday and Friday of last week and Monday of this week, the Grade 6s had fun at Supaworld, Blundstone Arena, Zone Bowling, Glenorchy Pool and to cap it off, the Mud Run at Redbanks. Whilst it was not Canberra, all activities were certainly fun and a great way to end the year. We know they have also been having fun this week making and baking a lot of Christmas goodies.
