Gala Concert - Tickets still available at the door!

We look forward to our annual showcase of the arts at tonight's Gala Concert at the Don Bosco Performance Centre at the GYC Glenorchy campus. It is always a wonderful night and highlights the breadth of talent across both campuses and the skills and enthusiasm of our fantastic staff. Tickets can be purchased at the door tonight - and thankfully the Centre is air conditioned!

Good luck to all performers.

Senior School Fair - Monday November 18, 5pm-8pm

The P&F Committee met last night to discuss all aspects of the Fair. The Committee is very well advanced and all is set for a wonderful community event. Please give yourself the night off cooking and bring along family and friends to support the P&F and reward all of their hard work.

A few helpers are still required for the Fair - full details are included in the P&F section of The Star.

2020 Leaders

It is with pleasure that I announce the first round of student leaders for 2020.

College Captain                                 Daniel Vallerine

Vice-Captain                                      Julius Lovell

Daniel                                             Julius

I take this opportunity to thank all the boys who made an application for leadership and encourage them to apply for House leadership. Congratulations to both Daniel and Julius on taking up the challenge of leading their peers and the wider College community.

Principals’ Tour - Friday November 22, Austins Ferry Campus

A reminder that the next Principal's tour will be held on Friday November 22. If you have family or friends who have sons in primary school this is a wonderful opportunity to come along and learn more about the opportunities that await boys at SVC. It is a great chance to learn about our exciting plans for Grade 11 and 12 and the building works we will undertake to bring this dream to fruition. Current families are also most welcome to attend.

To book a place please RSVP to Mrs Monica Nugent -

Upcoming Grade 10 Exams

Examinations for Grade 10s are rapidly approaching and I encourage all boys to commit to a rigorous timetable of revision in preparation. Exam success is not a secret - it is the product of hard work and focussed preparation. Developing a successful exam preparation strategy is an important skill for senior secondary years and one which staff have been working closely with students to develop across the year.

OVA Golf Day

Next Friday the OVA are hosting their annual golf day at the Royal Hobart Golf Club. The hard working committee have managed to attract a full field of 132 players in addition to an array of great prizes. It is always great to see generations of Old boys, together with past and present parents and staff, get together in the name of St Virgil's and to raise funds for causes which the College supports. Funds raised will go to Edmund Rice Camps and the Mary Rice Centre.

Congratulations Mr Cripps!

The College community congratulates Tristan, Steph and Harry upon the arrival of Lucy Katherine Cripps on October 29 2019 at 8:45am. Weight 3.4kg. All are doing well and all are completely besotted with her.

Get Well Soon and Welcome!

This week Mr Justin Mahoney had a significant knee operation. We wish him well for a speedy and full recovery. During his absence we are pleased to welcome Mrs Karryn McCullagh to our community to teach within the HPE Faculty.
