End of Term 3

As we come to the end of another term, I would like to take this opportunity to thank students for their ongoing commitment to their education and life at St Virgil’s and also for taking up the many opportunities on offer through the extra-curricular programmes. I particularly thank parents and staff, especially those whom volunteer so readily to assist in sporting, canteen and other areas within the College. Your generosity of time is greatly appreciated.

I wish the boys an enjoyable and restful couple of week’s holiday to return refreshed and ready for a very busy Term 4. Please note that all students will begin Term 4 on both campuses at the normal time on Monday October 14.

Support for Victims and Survivors of Sexual Abuse

In 2018 Edmund Rice Education Australia (EREA) provided an important and heartfelt apology to the victims and survivors of sexual abuse in its schools. EREA’s apology can be found at https://www.erea.edu.au/about-us/erea-apology-to-victims-and-survivors-of-sexual-abuse

As part of EREA, St Virgil’s is committed to standing in solidarity with victims and survivors of institutional sexual abuse. The following information is provided by the Tasmanian Catholic Education Office who have requested it be distributed via the newsletters of schools across the State.

If you experienced institutional sexual abuse as a child you are likely to be eligible under the National Redress Scheme for survivors of institutional child sexual abuse. The Sexual Assault Support Service (SASS) offer a free and confidential support service for people who are seeking information on, or wanting to apply to, the National Redress Scheme. To find out more you can contact SASS on (03) 6231 0044, or go to our website https://www.sass.org.au/redress-scheme-support-service.
