A Prayer for Uncertain Times

“We are beloved creatures of God, who in his goodness calls us to love life and live it in communion with the rest of creation.”

As we come to the end of a term of learning like no other we have experienced before, we head into our holiday break safer in our common environment than pretty much any-one else in the world. When we are asked to ‘holiday at home’ this school holidays we reflect on the amazingly beautiful and precious island that we are blessed to call our home.

And for those of us that are able to take up this opportunity to get out into our forests, climb our hills and mountains, walk along stormy beaches and enjoy the ice and snow let us take this time to give thanks and to heal. Let us take strength form our beautiful environment, let us become unafraid, rested and hopeful so that we a reenergised to continue working for and with our brothers and sisters around the world who don’t enjoy the lives that we do. Let us learn to “love our life and live it in communion with the rest of creation.”

My God, I have no idea where I am going.

I do not see the road ahead of me.

I cannot know for certain where it will end.

Nor do I really know myself,

And the fact that I think I am following your will

does not mean that I am actually doing so.

But I believe that the desire to please you

does in fact please you.

And I hope that I have that desire in all that I am doing.

And I know that if I do this,

you will lead me by the right road

though I may know nothing about it.

Therefore, will I trust you always

though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death,

I will not fear,

for you are ever with me

and you will never leave me to face my perils alone.
