Vol. 6, Ed.36 8th July 2020

From the Acting Principal

It has been an incredibly busy week at the College, particularly as we go through our ceremonies and rituals to farewell our Grade 10 students and wish them well for their transition to further education - including a number of boys who will commence apprenticeships and traineeships. For many boys this is a time of mixed feelings - they have reached the end of their current educational journey and have to come to terms with the fact that they will never again be in classes with just their SVC mates. This is balanced by the excitement of new opportunities - and an early start to the summer holidays!

As we journey together through this challenging time for our boys, please take the time to share with them your pride in their achievements to date and implore them to continue learning no matter which vocational pathway they take from this evening. Tonight each boy will receive Life Membership to the Old Virgilians Association which will reinforce that they will always belong to our community and will always be welcomed back. This sense of belonging will help to sustain them through the journey ahead.

I look forward to sharing tonight with you.

Review into Catholic Education in Southern Tasmania

As noted in last week's Star,  we have received an invitation from KPMG who have been engaged by the Archbishop of Hobart, Julian Porteous and the Tasmanian Catholic Education Commission (TCEC) to undertake a review of the Catholic Education ‘system’ in southern Tasmania. This review will occur from November 2017 to 30 April 2018.

The College has been encouraged to undertake broad engagement with our community in the framing of a submission and it would be greatly appreciated if your family could find time to complete a relevant survey(s) from the list below:

 Thank you for your assistance.

Please take the time to read the important announcements contained in all sections of this week's Star.

In the spirit of Blessed Edmund,
