Vol. 6, Ed.27 11th July 2020

From the Acting Principal

Last Monday the renewed 'Charter for Catholic Schools in the Edmund Rice Tradition' was launched at Christian Brothers’ College (CBC) St Kilda. The renewed Charter, the document that guides and informs our College, challenges us to “re-read the signs of our times and respond in ways that are sometimes counter to our dominant culture”. This notion of being counter cultural is an interesting one and one that we have been challenging the boys with lately. In his address to the gathering Dr Wayne Tinsey, the Executive Director of EREA suggested that our mission in education is motivated by our deep belief in the young and their potential to create a better world. Addressing the students present directly he said the following powerful words that I am sure would resonate with parents:

“We want you to learn that the liberty you enjoy through the good fortune of your birth, is not license to do whatever you want. Rather, it is freedom to do what you must do for the making of a fairer and more just society. We want you to know that freedom and service are inextricably linked and with privilege comes social responsibility. In a world of emerging walls and closing borders, we hope that you will be free from narrowness and intolerance”

Let us pray that our boys will all grow to become men who live lives of integrity, tolerance and authenticity. Let us hope that our boys will grow to become men who are committed to making a better world for all.

I look forward to seeing all members of our community at the Junior School Fair on Sunday from 11.30am to 2pm. As always it will be a fantastic day!

In the spirit of Blessed Edmund,

Terry Blizzard
Acting Principal
