Vol. 6, Ed.26 17th October 2019

From the Acting Principal

Last Friday a group of colleagues and I were invited to visit the St Francis’ Flexible Learning Centre in Chigwell. This is an Edmund Rice Education Australia (EREA) alternative education setting offering curriculum programmes to students in Grade 7 to 10 who find mainstream schools like our own difficult for various reasons. It was wonderful to meet the passionate and committed staff. It was interesting to note that irrespective of the school setting some things are common.

St Francis' published principles under which the students are expected to conduct themselves - honesty, safe and legal, participation and respect are fundamentals of dignified human interaction.

For me there were two learnings from the visit; (1) Edmund’s teachings of inclusion and dignity for all are alive and well at St Francis, and (2) we should never take for granted the incredible privileges afforded the boys who attend our own College.

We look forward to working with our other Tasmanian EREA school in the future and seeing their continued success.

In the spirit of Blessed Edmund,

Terry Blizzard
Acting Principal
