Catholic Education Week

In celebrating Catholic Education Week, as a College community we are called to respond to the theme modelled by Pope Francis - ‘Opening the Door of Mercy’. We recognise the contribution made by all in Catholic education in Tasmania as we promote the mission and ethos central to being an authentic Catholic school. Mass was held in the Cathedral earlier today with student representatives from all Catholic schools in the Diocese in attendance. It was great to see the Grade 5 class and Junior School Leaders represent St Virgil's at this significant Eucharistic celebration.

Athletics Carnival

As part of our annual House competitions, the Athletics Carnival provides one of the major opportunities for students to come together and participate in events which attract valuable points towards the House Cup. Next Thursday August 25, the College will gather at the Domain Athletics Centre for this year’s event. It promises to be an exciting day for all and we look forward to great weather, healthy competition and lots of fun. Parents are most welcome to attend. The carnival will run from 9.30am to 2.15pm.

National Benchmark Testing Trial

Next week we have two different forms of National benchmark testing across the College.  Grade 4 and Grade 8 students will take part in National Religious Education Literacy Testing which is an online test. A selected Grade 7 and Grade 9 class will participate in an online trial of the NAPLAN style testing as the test regime looks to transition to fully online environment in coming years.

Book Week

The theme for Book Week this year is ‘Australiana’ and our Junior School Library has been transformed with displays of amazing native Australian artefacts. It was wonderful today to see so many students engage in the Book Week theme and come dressed as their favourite Australiana book character.
